Itinerary
Day 1:
- PICK UP Hotel or Airport with a member of the YAKUMAMA AMAZON TOURS team (naturalist guide) who will be there waiting to receive you, then we will take a private car (1 hour ½, approx.) to go to the city of Nauta, (Nauta port located in Río Marañón), then we will take our typical boat with a wooden roof to navigate approximately 2 hours towards the Lodge, along the Marañón, Amazonas, Ucayali and Yarapa rivers, (our lodge is located on the Yarapa river). During this first navigation, you may see some river bird, dolphin and river people activities.
- LUNCH TIME: Table Service / Self-service Buffet.
- CULTURAL VISIT TO THE LOCAL RIVER PEOPLE: The river people always live in small villages along the river, because the river is their main route to go everywhere, to get fish to eat and sell, some villages don’t have treated water at home so sometimes they get water from river or rain, this Jungle dweller try their best to live here by getting the supplies from nature and others make very beautiful handicrafts to get some money.
- SWIMMING/PINK AND GRAY DOLPHIN WATCHING: Paired with Sunset!
- SUNSET (AFTERGLOW) ON THE RIVER: Do you think it is almost impossible to see a sunset and not dream? Do not lose hope !!! You will fully enjoy the sunset in nature, jumping between trees covered in dew or sailing along a seemingly calm river called the Amazon. A perfect time in the middle (5:45 to 6:15) to appreciate one of the most impressive flashes of sun on the mighty Amazon River and also a splendor glow in the sky. This is the most relaxing way to end the day, you can take a bottle of wine and toast to being in the Amazon, a wonderful place enjoying the impressive view and the refreshing breeze, also during this tour…find some animals like dolphins gray ones or the pink one, a small flock of birds (egrets, little parrots, black trackers, terns… or maybe on the way back to the lodge you may suddenly find an alligator… who knows… anyway , the jungle is a place full of surprises, just enjoy it. This excursion can be combined with another one connected to the great river and last longer and enjoy more time to the fullest. Visit and learn the local culture, beliefs, lifestyle, dialects, education , etc. It’s a way to interact and feel the real life of Amazon people, children are always happy to meet new friends from all over the world, and if you brought some school supplies this is the time to give them away and make them smile and light up their happiness
- DINNER TIME: Table Service / Self-service Buffet.
- NIGHT WALK THROUGH THE JUNGLE: We get ready to go into the jungle using our rubber boots, which is the best way to walk in the bush and let’s meet and look for some strange creature like us: night monkeys, opossums, snakes, frogs, toads, bullet ants, spiders, tarantulas, scorpions, insects, small reptiles, lechers, etc.
Day 2
- SUNRISE ON THE RIVER AND BIRD WATCHING: You have to wake up at 5:30 am and leave at 5:45 from our BASE CAMP in our excursion boat to the main river, then we turn off the boat in the middle of the river and stay quiet for 5 minutes to enjoy this beautiful moment contemplating the whisper of the river and the whistling of the birds. Dawn lasts about 15 minutes and we can appreciate the sun coming out of the clouds due to the high humidity of 90% in the jungle. After this we go upstream to look for wildlife along the river you may find some animals like dolphins, iguanas, haws, terms, little ones, herons and black skimmers etc). Then we return to the BASE CAMP. This excursion is short but very interesting and wonderful. It can last about 1 hour.
BREAKFAST TIME.
- WALK TO THE AMAZON JUNGLE: It’s time to stretch your legs, move your body, that’s why the walk through the Amazon jungle is highly recommended for those who like adrenaline and adventure to enter the Amazon jungle to explore and learn in this time about the local medicinal plants used by our Amazon. tribes, look for large trees such as: ceiba, Ficus, Amazon mahogany and also the famous tree during the history of the Amazon “The rubber tree”. Throughout the walk we look for some animals such as: monkeys, birds, rodents, spiders, ants, insects, snakes, etc. The best time to do this activity is right after breakfast, because the animals move everywhere looking for food and we will also provide you with rubber boots that will make you feel comfortable and safe during the walk in the jungle against small ants, spiders, insects , and snakes on the ground. This excursion can last about 4 or 5 hours round trip.
- LUNCH TIME: Table Service / Self-service Buffet.
- EXPLORATION OF THE CUMACEBA RIVER: This is a small black river, where we can find wildlife, we will go upstream to explore as far as we can, this excursion can last 4 hours round trip, so we recommend bringing a headlamp, so in the way back. we were able to spot alligators.
- SEARCH FOR NIGHT CAIMAN: We go out to the black lakes 40 minutes from the lodge by boat, along the river you can see some other animals such as snakes, opossums, bats, monkeys, etc. looking for some alligators is sometimes not easy but for us it is. nothing is impossible and if you want to take a closer picture of the alligators our guide can catch you and then release you.
- DINNER TIME: Table Service / Self-service Buffet.
Day 3
- BREAKFAST TIME.
- PIRANHA FISHING: We go up the river and enjoy the Amazon, more than 2,000 species of fish such as Peacock bass, barracuda, sardines, catfish, among others, it is time to go for a walk catching many piranhas in some deep lakes in the area and take it to the hostel. , try to eat this delicious fish and live the experience of trying one of the most dangerous fish on Earth. If you are a fisherman, this is a great opportunity to spend half a day catching lots of fish enjoying some beer and the sounds of the jungle. We will provide you with our local fishing trail called (fishing pole) and bait, but if you have your fishing gear at home please bring it with you. At the end of the excursion, we have to make a donation to Mother Nature for allowing us to catch some fish in her water, so it is best to donate a little piece of our finger. (Enjoy the Amazon with a little sense of humor). This excursion can last as long as you want to spend outdoors.
- GIANT AMAZON LILY: Come and enjoy this species of flowering plant, the largest water leaf in the word called Amazon Lily pads, its incredible large leaf that reaches 3 meters (10 Ft) in diameter and along with its beautiful white, pink and purple flower (named in the Amazon as: Victoria Regia). These plants are found in medium-sized streams, lakes, ponds, and wetlands (lentic water ecosystem). To look for these plants, we take our typical local boat and navigate up and down the river to find this giant aquatic plant and on the way always trying to spot more animals as usual in each different excursion.

- Pick up from the airport from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. (Tour starts at 8:00 am).
- Transfer to the lodge inside the jungle.

What to wear?
- MANDATORY VACCINATION.
- Bring medication against allergic reactions and traveler’s illness.
- Schedule your arrival flight before 8:30am.
- Light cotton clothing, preferably light coloured, avoid black as it attracts mosquitoes.
- Light, long-sleeved shirts for protection from the sun and mosquitoes.
- Bring a refillable bottle of water.
- Bring a head and hand torch. (required).
- Batteries.
- Repellent (Mandatory).
- Hat or cap.

- Sunscreen.
- Optional vaccination, the use of repellent is essential.
