The Inca sites visited in Peru

Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu 8 Days, This is one of the many paths that cross the incredible Andes mountain range. As such, it was featured in traveling magazines and is considered one of the top ten treks in the world for its biodiversity and wildlife. Most of the trail goes through the Andes and then touches the jungle where we will see local fruit plantations. On this trip, we offer a selective and exclusive service. Our staff members are trained and ready for all activities to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. This is one of the luxuries we have to offer: expert guides, qualified as such by our clients. This expedition will take you to two of the main archaeological sites in the Cusco area: CHOQUEQUIRAO and MACHU PICCHU.

Day 1: Cusco — Capuliyoc — Marampata.

We will pick you up from your hotel between 3:30 and 4:00 am. to begin our trip in a private van for 4 hours northeast of the city of Cusco, through small towns to the city of Capuliyoc (2,800 masl) where we will have a delicious breakfast. and where we will also meet our travel staff (muleteers and horses).

After breakfast, we start with our walk for about 20 minutes and we will reach our first viewer where we have a panoramic view, in front of us we can see the vilcabamba mountain range called (padreyoc) and the famous Apurimac Canyon, after having an amazing view. we will begin our descent for 3 hours through beautiful landscapes where you will be able to see different medicinal plants that were used by our ancestors (muña, chilca and different varieties of plants). If we are lucky we will be able to see the majestic Condor, we descend to Chiquisca Hamlet (1800 masl) where we have a delicious typical Cusco buffet lunch.

After lunch, we will have a 30-minute break to continue or walk, descending 45 more minutes to Rosalinas Beach (1700 masl), located on the Apurímac River, separated by two important Peruvian regions, CUSCO and APURIMAC.

After passing the famous Apurimac river, we continue descending for 4 hours to Marampata (3500 masl) on the way we will see bird dance, at sunset we will see the Andean people, how they live in the mountains with a lifestyle that you may not believe compared to the city. We will arrive at our private Choquequirao Trek Lodge at approximately 5:30 p.m., after a short break for dinner, at approximately 7 p.m. and during the night in our LOGDE, during the night you will be able to see constellations according to the Andean or Inca religion.

Day 2: Maranpata — Choquequirao — Choquequirao Camp Site.

Early in the morning, you will wake up with a coca tea and have enough time to organize our things. At approximately 7:30 am we will have a delicious typical breakfast. Then we will continue with our trek to Marampata, on this day the trek will have a high physical level, where we will be able to see an incredible view of the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex (3900 masl) through our trek we will have incredible canon views where our tour guide will explain about flora and fauna, we will have 3 hours to explore the entire Choquequirao Complex (cradle of gold), also known as the lost city where you will visit the plazas sector, the llamas sector, the astronomical sector and other important places.

After visiting all these places, we will begin our descent to the Choquequirao camp, where our picnic awaits us. Lunch awaits us, after lunch we will take a 30-minute break and continue to an incredible place that only we know about, this place is called Pachayoc waterfalls (waterfalls) a place where you will be in contact with nature. Finally we will return to the Choquequirao camp where dinner is ready and it is time to stop.

Day 3: Choquequirao — Rio Blanco — Maizal.

Before breakfast, we recommend going to appreciate the magnificent sunrise from this picturesque place! We will have breakfast at 6 AM.
We begin today's hike by passing and exploring the ruins of Choquequirao. We hike uphill through cloud forest, mountains and valleys to reach the Choquequirao pass.
After 5 hours of walking, the trail continues through agricultural terraces called Pinchinoyoc which means "forward waterfall" (2750 MASL – 9022 FASL).

There we will see different species of birds, varieties of orchids and local coca plantations.
We will have lunch near the Blanco River. We use the break here to take a refreshing dip in the cold clear river water if you wish.
We cross the river walking because there are no bridges.
On the other side, we begin the long and steep climb to our camp in Maizal, above the river and closer to the sacred Apus of the Incas. This climb lasts approximately 3 hours. This is the most challenging day. We will camp at 3000 MASL – 9842 FASL.

Day 4: Maizal — Minas Victoria — Yanama.

¡Waking up on the hillside to the sounds of the forest and birds is a truly great experience! Recharging our energy with a good breakfast and following the way up, the landscape is lush green vegetation.
If we keep up our motivation and the gods give us a clear sky, we can sit back and appreciate the snowy mountains that surround us. The uphill climb today is around 7 hours to the top, and this trail is historically important due to some archaeological remains and Inca channels along the way.

We will pass through the impressive Inca mines called Minas Victoria, where silver was extracted. and head towards Victoria Pass (4200 MASL – 13773 FASL).
This is a long climb, but we will walk through an absolutely stunning area, first with cloud forest and then over the Andean Puna with its well-known Ichu grass.

As we get closer to the top, we can appreciate the original paved Inca trails. We will have lunch in the port with views of the Choquetakarpo and Pedrayoc mountains.
While we have lunch, we hope to appreciate the flight of the condors, depending on the weather.
Finally, we will descend to our camp in Yamana, a small village settlement at the bottom of a long valley surrounded by mountains (3800 masl – 12467 FASL).

Day 5: Yanama — Totora — Colpapama.

The native Yamana community surrounds the base camp. We start another long day with the big smiles of the local children, the sun shining on the camp, the noise of a great waterfall and breakfast at a table outside to appreciate everything that surrounds us.
Then we start walking uphill to the highest pass on this hike (5 hours). This is the Yamana pass (4700 MASL – 15419 FASL).
During the day, it is common to see Andean farmers growing potatoes in their fields and possibly even some frozen potatoes. Once again, the view will be incredible from here, as we will be surrounded by the Saqsarayoc and Pedreyoc mountain ranges.
Once again we have the chance to see condors in the air, and this morning's gentle climb takes us through new landscapes, especially the wet grassy fields below the snow line and running water.
At the pass, we may be walking through the snow at a new entrance to the Santa Teresa Valley. Here, we can observe one of the Inca gods: the Salkantay mountain.
We then descend a long, misty path through grassy fields and bushy areas, crossing bridges on the way to the Totora community. where we will have lunch

After a short rest, we continue descending again into warmer climes and our path will finally converge at Colpapampa (2900m/9514ft) where we will camp for the night.

Day 6: Colpapampa — Playa — Santa Teresa.

After breakfast at 6:00 a.m., we begin our day of walking until we reach our lunch site at La Playa. After lunch we will have a fairly easy descent where you will be able to experience Ceja de Sela, the jungle of the jungle. Here, you will see coca, coffee, fruit plantations, birds, orchids and begonias.

Then we will have a bus that will take us for two hours to the town of Santa Teresa, where we will have dinner and spend the night in tents.

Day 7:  Santa Teresa — Hidrioelectrica — Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, we will board our transport to the hydroelectric plant, where the government control and the entrance to the Machu Picchu National Park (Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu) are located.

At this point, we will begin our walk towards the town of Aguas Calientes, passing through the area called Intihuatana, a small archaeological site where the guide will share an explanation to better understand the site.

Then we will continue to Inka Rakay, where we will enjoy our lunch. During the trip, we will enjoy and contemplate the majesty of the mountains of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, as well as other agrological sites in the heights of the mountain.

We will end the walk in the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the third night of the tour.

Day 8: Aguas Calientes — Machupicchu — Cusco.

Today we reach the long-awaited end of our trek, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Machu Picchu! We will get up early after a refreshing night in our lodge to beat the crowds to the top of Machu Picchu and enjoy its serenity in the soft morning light. The entrance control point to Machu Picchu is open from 06:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to 17:00 p.m. We will hike up to Machu Picchu (a bus ride is optional and included if you do not wish to walk) and enter the hidden Royal Citadel of the Incas.
Here we will have a 2-hour guided tour through this incredible ancient city to visit temples, terraces, palaces, priests' houses, the sundial, the industrial sector and the cultivated fields. Be amazed at the engineering ingenuity of the Incas that was so far ahead of its time and is still partly a mystery today! Without having modern tools or even steel and iron to work with, the people who built this city were brilliant at organizing this community in a sustainable and beautiful way on the side of a mountain, even bringing water in canals through its streets for the people can use. When a Peruvian guide showed Hiram Bingham this site, it was almost unrecognizable, covered in thick vegetation and in poor condition. It has since been cleaned up and restored and is now protected and treasured by the world at large!

After this tour, you can climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain (make sure you book early to get tickets for these!). Each mountain takes about 3 hours to go up and down. Another low-impact option for which you don't need an additional ticket is to walk to Puerta del Sol, the main entrance from the Inca Trail (this takes about 2-2.5 hours round trip).
Another option is to walk to see the Inca Bridge. You will be able to stay and enjoy this magical city for more than 7 hours before returning to Aguas Calientes for the 6:45 PM train ride to Ollantaytambo. A private bus will pick up our group and drop you off at your hostel in Cusco at approximately 11:00 p.m. ¡Rest your feet and body now, but we can assure you that your heart will still be racing for weeks and years to come!
